Notebook Entry ...Seventeen

My Olympus M.Zuiko ED 17mm f1.2 Pro is a special lens, well to me at least. It is a super fast medium wide angle prime which provides a crop factor equivalent focal length of 34mm in terms of the 35mm format. It delivers simply exceptional image quality and is built accordingly.

This is one of my favourite lenses for my MFT cameras but then again I tend to say this about all my Olympus/ OM System Pro lenses when I pick them up and use them, but this one is special. It's pin-sharp even when used wide-open at f1.2, both in the centre and at the edges of the frame. It creates its own "feathered bokeh" when used wide open at f1.2 delivering a subtle, unique look which I love.

As for distortion, chromatic aberrations and vignetting they are all perfectly controlled as well. The iQ of this lens really is special.

There is a reason for this, Olympus threw a lot of high end optical technology at the design and build of this lens. It is of complex construction its configuration being of 15 elements in 11 groups.

This includes one SED (Super Extra Low Dispersion) element, three ED (Extra Low Dispersion) elements, one ED-DSA (Extra Low Dispersion - Dual Surface Aspherical) element, one EDA (Extra Low Dispersion Aspherical) Element, one Super HR (Super High Refractive Index) Element and one Aspherical element. You get the picture!

Add in its pro build; manual focus clutch; fast and accurate auto focus; dust, splash & freeze weather sealing you can see why I love this lens. As for the images I can get with it on my OM-3, well you really do get the picture!
