Another OM System camera, this time the delectable OM-3 bought used in a moment of madness but with no regrets as this a fabulous instrument with a retro vibe but all the best tech including the latest imaging pipe from the flagship OM-1 II but in a more compact, portable body with the addition of a Creative Dial lifted from the long discontinued Olympus Pen-F which now has a cult following.
With the judicious use the colour settings enabled by the creative dial it is possible to get Jpegs straight out of the camera that match the 'look' that you envisage for your style of work. For someone like myself who is not a fan of post processing, this a huge boon.
With its AI tracking modes it has a very sophisticated, fast and accurate AF system which it again inherits from the flagship OM-1 II and they work brilliantly.
All of computational functions are now available directly from the press of a single CP button on the back of the camera instead of having to wade through the menu system, great for quickly and easily slipping into tracking trains mode for example.
Finally the quality of the Jpegs coming straight out of the camera is outstanding. Much better than those out of the OM-5 II where you need to work a lot harder in post to bring out the images. The only downside is the camera being both bigger and, with an all metal body, noticeably heavier than the OM-5 II thus somewhat less convenient to carry around for extended periods though it really is svelte compared to the OM-1 II. The latter really is not for my type of work.
Mind you the OM-3 is drop dead gorgeous and attracts admiring looks wherever it goes people often mistaking it for one of its progenitors from the old Olympus OM System 35mm SLR film camera series. So it has become (mostly) my everyday walkabout camera.
